The BMW M2 Competition faces a lot of stiff competition these days for a number of reasons. From the price tag, which positions it in some really hot water, to the performance it brings to the table. Some would argue that it can go up against much more expensive cars due to its incredible performance while others would find it just right within its price range, having to defeat some really awesome cars on the way.

In the video below, we get to see the new M car taking on some rather unexpected rivals. We’re used to seeing the M2 Competition thrown against cars like the Audi TT RS or the RS3 but this time round, we’re looking at the Bimmer going up against an Alfa Romeo 4C and a Lotus Exige 350 Sport. These are some more exotic choices if you will, definitely not the kind of cars you see every day on your way to work.

The thing is, they seem pretty comparable at first. The M2 Competition has 410 PS to rely on, which makes it the most powerful car in the trio, but it’s also the heaviest, by far, tipping the scale over 1.5 tons. On the other hand, the other two cars are down on power but also considerably lighter. The Alfa uses a 1.75-liter 4-pot with 240 HP while tipping the scale at under a ton, 925 kilos to be more precise. The Lotus is also light on its feet at 1,125 kilos but has 345 HP to rely on from a supercharged V6 engine.

The three go at it a couple of times with interesting results and I won’t ruin the surprise by telling you who won. At the same time, before these three face off, the M2 Competition also has to face two pre-facelift models, one with a manual gearbox and one with a similar DCT unit.
