The 8 Series is getting ready to be delivered to excited prospective owners around the world. That means BMW will now be ramping up its marketing efforts for the new model and it will most likely begin with TV commercials. One of them was just published on the BMW USA Youtube channel and focuses on the 8 Series. Being just 15 seconds long, they had to be concise and get straight to the point, which is exactly what we’re dealing with here.
Revived after 20 years, the 8 Series is expected to take the fight home to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. The new 8er is, however, supposed to be just as luxurious and good-looking while offering superior driving dynamics. That remains to be seen but the initial thoughts on the car, especially the M Performance model, M850i xDrive, seem to say exactly what the engineers have striven for. Furthermore, with this accent on driving dynamics, BMW can once again go back to its motto: the Ultimate Driving Machine.
The 8 is also going to spawn a couple of M models. As a matter of fact, next year we’ll get to see a lot of M products being launched. From the M8 Coupe to the M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe, the 8 Series range will expand considerably. That’s before you take into account all the other M cars to arrive in the world by then, like the X3 M, X4 M and a couple more. That said, you might want to hold off spending your money on an M850i until the M8 comes out.
The rest of the range is also promoted in a 30-second ad which will be run on US TV stations. In the longer version we get to see the new X3 in action alongside the 4 Series Convertible, BMW X2 and the 8 Series, of course. You can check them both out, below.
What happened to the use of the “new” logo on the 8 series?
Yeah with black colour instead of blue on the badge
I’m confused about it as well, but did notice they used “Bayerische Motoren Werke” in the commercial. But I don’t understand why they don’t use the black/white logo instead of the blue.
This car will flop…it does not look good. The side looks like it was broad sided by a pick up truck…that big identation looks like it has a “sunken chest”….
This car will have multiple drivetrains, body styles. Original 8 was not a hit, market had turned & V12s weren’t in demand. Plus large, heavy, tiny back seat, I thought the design was dull. Today it is a classic, so what do I know? The new one is a big improvement over anything else on our streets. Have you seen it in the metal? Cabriolet? 8M? Gran Coupe? Anything? Or just the sunken chest? Original had the reverse, blisters over the wheel wells. They were also criticized. History repeats.
Reality is your opposite.
BMWblog, pls.keep our inboxes turd-free.
It’s called freedom of expression. Difficult concept for some- I can see.
More unsolicited spam in my inbox via BMWblog that has NOTHING to do with actual the contents of your blog.
No idea what you’re talking about. What spam?
Previously banned John. By spam I was being polite.
Just because someone has different views and a rather odd way of expressing it, it does not mean they should be banned. I can see why John can be annoying but it is his way of telling us his thoughts.
Thoughts are great. Name calling abuse is not.
I am not odd or annoying. Marco is therefore wrong on that front.
I am the most informed commentator on reality. I have 21 completed degrees and an unfinished one which I had to drop so to try and help those who need my help such as you.
I do not do “name calling abuse”.
I offer advice to those whom I regard to be in need of it.
I am respected by all those who understand and appreciate my contribution to the whole world and you could be one of them just pretending to be not.
Another comment again unrelated to reality or the content of this blog = troll.
LOL 21 completed degrees. Yet you take the time to write these superfluous comments. What went wrong?
To understand a wrong, we must first understand a right. I therefore ask, respectfully, what went right for you?
Coward.
That logic you’re using is fatally flawed so you’re well wrong. 6 series range was a good seller. 8 series portfolio is its natural progression albeit a step-up in luxury and price. Buyers of 6ers aren’t suddenly going to replace with 5 series or 7 series, they’ll step up to 8 series. Also, 8 series/8GC/8 cabrio/M8/M8GC etc will take buyers from other carmakers. Therefore, 8 series will not flop. And the 8er looks good. Check your eyes again, mate.
Let’s forget Logic…and talk FACT! The 6 series coupe was not a great seller..less than 3,000 units per year. This car is ugly…the sides look terrible…it is you who needs the eye exam guy!
Yes, why original 6er was only manufactured for over a decade. Why BMW built a 2nd. generation, coupe & cabriolet. The 8er is a success just for marketing purposes, as competitive race car and
Calm steady now, you’re acting as though someone has tickled you out of composure. Anyway, Ferrari sells under 3,000 cars per year. Would you say, by your logic, Ferrari isn’t a great seller? Not every car is made to be a “volume seller” or produce sales figures that’ll please your eyes. 6 series segment’s sales numbers are not expected to match lower segments/mass volume sellers. For whatever sales number 6 series produced, it was a great seller for BMW and that’s why they’ve decided to cash on it even more so by transforming it upwards. By the way, I will not forget about logic. Good Logic is fact.
disgusting horrible advert ew
This new 8-series needs a V12! in this class they are the only one without V12 and the only one with diesel??? so WTF??
M8 okay it’s a sporty one, dynamic setup and nervous V8 TT, everythin okay cos they need to confront S63 AMG and Bentley Conti V8 and AM Vantage V8 etc.
and they also need a V12 option to fight with V12 rivals
M860i would be perfect, 6.6L twinturbo V12 from 7-series but with power up would be a nice treat for those who want luxurious big coupe with smooth power delivery and high speed autobahn bomber…maybe in a straight line it would be faster then M8 but it doesn’t matter it is targeting atotally different group of buyers….similar like there is S65 AMG Coupe and S63 AMG Coupe…..and like there is Audi A8 W12 and S8….and like Porsche has 911 GT3 and Turbo….etc.
Also they can put in M850d Xdrive….they wont have and competition!
I agree. This car really needs a V12 option. That would be absolutely amazing.
I really like this commercial!
