Car and Driver takes the hottest vehicles on the market and subject them to a reference lap on the fearsome Virginia International Raceway.
Lightning Lap can be considered the equivalent of the Nürburgring Nordschleife where many automakers fine tune their cars. The three-minutes laps offers long straight lines, elevation changes, and combination of slow, fast, and, scary-fast corners.
From BMW family, the U.S. magazine tested the M5, M6 and F30 335i.
The following times were recorded for the BMWs tested:
BMW M6 – 3.04.7
BMW M5 – 3.05.2
BMW 335i – 3.13.2
Fastest car on the track was the Ferrari 458 Italia: 2.49.9.
