While we’re biting our nails waiting for the BMW M2 CS to be unveiled, some lucky people actually got to drive it already. The guys over at German magazine Sport Auto, have taken the upcoming specialty M2 out for a spin on their usual proving grounds at Hockenheim. The results they got were interesting, to say the least. The entire experience will be available in the upcoming print edition but in the meanwhile, we can check out how their lap went in the video below.

As we already reported, the BMW M2 CS will have 450 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, more than the current M2 Competition and on par with the M3/M4 Competition models. Since it’s using the same S55 engine, that power level won’t be an issue. The car will also weigh about 1,588 kilos, if the info provided by the guys at Sport Auto is accurate. They do mention that their estimate was of the car with a full tank of fuel.

The M2 CS will also be faster than the Competition model in a straight line, the DCT-equipped version being quoted capable of doing the usual 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds (even though BMW claims 4 seconds flat). On the track though, the M2 CS posted a rather impressive result though with a lap time of 1:55.80. According to the video description, this ranks the M2 CS among some considerably more expensive competition.

At 1:55.8, the M2 CS is faster around the Hockenheim than the likes of the Audi R8 V10 Spyder Performane, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche 718 Boxster T, Audi TTRS Coupe and Toyota Supra among others. It is also barely slower than an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and a Porsche 911 Carrera S 992. Will that be good enough? We’ll just have to wait and see.
