Now that the BMW 7 Series facelift has been around for a couple of months, reviews are starting to come out. The guys from Throttle House have put together a rather interesting comparison between the new 7 Series and one of its main rivals – the Audi A8. At the moment, this ultra luxurious part of the market is dominated by the S-Class and 7 Series. Lexus is also doing rather fine, while the A8 has some ground to cover.
It’s a shame too, as the new A8 is a really impressive machine. Unfortunately, in the video below, things are not exactly even. The BMW side of things is represented by a mean, 523-HP 750i model which has about 200 HP more than what the 3-liter V6 under the hood of the Audi can deliver. Power isn’t everything though and there’s so much tech spread between these two cars that engines become the most boring thing you can talk about.
Of course, the huge grille of the 7 Series was, briefly, discussed. In their opinion, it’s a bit too much on the BMW and just right on the Audi A8. Yes, the A8 has a huge grille too, but on the Audi it actually fits in with the rest of the car and its design. In the end, there’s no obvious choice to make here, each car having its pros and cons, thus we don’t have a clear winner. However, that may not be the case with our own review of the two cars, which is being shot right now.
Stay tuned!
Correct me if I’m wrong grille haters, but wouldn’t 7er’s vanish behind Audi’s? Then you could put Lexus in front & use it as a plow…
Don’t be silly.
Stay focused and to the point.
Why do you keep addressing your comments 2 urself 2 me?
exactly I think the BMW grille is nice when you see it in the flesh…in my opinion it looks a million times better than pre lci
The large grilles are the easiest way to identify new X SAVs & 7 Series.
Hideous all round. F.. all taste and no imagine all round. How can BMW participate in this nonsense.
Absolutely.
Why don’t they make one model for those of us who appreciate the classic BMW look and then continue to make the other appeal to the Chinese market?
I mean, the only change would be the design, everything else is the same.
Toyota did or does that with some of their models, they (would) have an American and European one.
The old saying “Shave your dog’s butt and teach it to walk backwards” applies to these to ugly beasts.
Also reserved for the Chrysler Crossfire many years back – as design it was said reminded many of a dog taking a dump I believe!!
the 7 is the better looking car BMWBlog. You like A8 front ? The big plastic front grille as huge as the Earth ? And you continue to pose your opinion in order to make people think that the new design of the 7 is something bad? That is unprofessional from any point of view. And second this 7 is by miles ahead of Audi’s design (which you even can’t really call design because they are virtually the same as previous models , just little facelifted ) . You can ban me but that’s the truth.
