Ahead of its April unveil, the upcoming BMW M2 Competition is giving us a glimpse into its new looks. A leaked image surfaced earlier today on Instagram showing a Hockenheim Silver model with a revised front-end and the highly expected M side mirror.
The leaked image also reveals a wider front grille which now sits closer to the outer edge of the headlights, painted in black as well. On the lower part of the bumper, we can spot a new design of the air curtains which employ sharper angles and more sculpture.
Our own sources confirmed a few other interesting tidbits that were whispered in the past to us. The front grille will have a one piece design instead of the two separate kidneys we’ve become accustomed to. Throughout the entire body, the M2 Competition is slightly wider than the current M2, which simply means that designers and engineers fitted the new M2 Competition with larger fenders.
Inside the cabin we will also get a special treat – M Sport Seats, along with some small trim updates to differentiate the new model.
As we’ve reported before, the production of the new super sporty, compact Coupe will begin in Summer of 2018, more precisely, July. The legendary N55 3.0 liter TwinScroll six-cylinder in the current M2 will be replaced by a detuned S55 unit, with the same internal components as the one found in the M3 and M4, but with slightly less power – 405 hp. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed M-DCT transmission or a six-speed manual.
The M2 Competition will also introduce new colors to the lineup. One of them is Silver Hockenheim, while the other is a flashier one – Sunset Orange. It will also continue to be offered in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey and Long Beach Blue Metallic.
Looks like the exact same place where the 8 Series leaks were taken… someone is going to seriously lose their job!
Looks great… I love the added agro of the new kidneys and mirrors. Small differences but do add to the already excellent aesthetics of the M2.
looks stunning, lets hope this is real.
Yes to the mirrors, no to the front fascia change. The current version works so well because it’s all in proportion. The grilles on the current M2 are about as big as you can manage without ending up with a weird 50/50 vertical proportion, instead of thirds. Then the light assembly suddenly looks really tiny. On the plus side, I’ll finally have a part number for those mirrors. And hilariously, the pedestrian ‘comfort’ M2 doesn’t have front parking sensors (or a button to turn them on or off) but the ‘performance’ CS does… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
The grilles look a little big but maybe it works with the changes they’ve done to the fascia.
Looks like a very nicely sculpted front fascia, very aggressive. This will blow the standard M4 out of the water. I mean it has nearly the same HP, is lighter, smaller and now probably just as fast. Will be interesting.
I find it very hard to believe BMW will go away from the two grill design. It is there trade mark as much as the Blue and White badge.
