Now that Mercedes-Benz launched its new E63 AMG models, people are waiting to see what the other two German premium manufacturers will bring to the challenge. We know that BMW is working on a new BMW M5 with around 600 HP while Audi is going to have to launch a new RS7 to keep up. In the meantime though, we can compare the current models with the new Merc and things don’t look good for Munich and Ingolstadt.

To be fair, the difference between the three is mostly noticeable at launch, where the new 4-liter V8 of the AMG machine and its figures combined with the all-wheel drive system make it almost a supercar killer. According to Mercedes-Benz, their new E63 S has 612 HP and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque which allow it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds. On top of all that, the car also sounds like an angry version of King Kong, growling at Godzilla.

Then there’s the Audi RS7 also using a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 making 560 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, numbers that are definitely understated if we’re to judge by what we’re seeing in the video below. The 0-62 mph sprint should take 3.9 seconds from standstill thanks to AWD. Last but not least we have the current M5 in Competition Package guise. That means the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 575 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. It’s RWD so the 0-62 mph sprint takes 4.4 seconds for the BMW.

However, once the three get up to triple digit speeds, things start to even out. In the 190-280 km/h comparison, the Merc still leads but it’s mostly due to its superior HP and torque figures. Nonetheless, the other two follow closely, which makes us wonder just how fast the new F90 M5 will be once it finally comes out.
