According to our sources – and confirming our previous report – BMW will launch two new models this summer – the M140i hatch and M240i Coupe/Convertible. The updated models will follow the steps of the recently unveiled 340i and the upcoming 440i and X4 M40i, and deliver an additional 15 horsepower for a total of 340 hp.
The current M235i is powered by the N55 six-cylinder inline powerplant with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology which generates maximum output of 240 kW/326 hp and accelerates the BMW M235i Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds. The hatch M135i received a refresh earlier last year with a 6 horsepower increase for a total of 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque between 1300-4500 rpm.
The updated engines are matted to a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic with shifting paddles.
BMW will offer the M240i Coupe and Convertible in the U.S., while the M140i hatchback will continue to be sold in Europe.
I’m torn between purchasing a pre-owned m235i or buying a new golf R outright….what swayed you towards the R if you don’t mind me asking?
1. I really wanted a hatchback.
2. You really can’t compete with the R at the price point it is at. The interior is made with nice materials and has great features and tech. Performance wise, it’s a blast. Very happy with my purchase.
I agree, the R is a ton of car inside and out at the price point. Thanks for replying!
