The BMW G01 X3 will join the X family in 2017. Testing of the new car continues on all corners of the world to make sure the final product will be worthy of the blue and white roundel once it comes out. One prototype was spotted undergoing tests a couple of days ago in the Scandinavian Peninsula. To make it even more interesting, a Porsche Macan joins the picture.

The new G01 X3 will be based on the CLAR modular architecture and it’s supposed to drop around 100 kg (221 lbs) of weight off its hips, thanks to vast usage of aluminum and CFRP.

On top of that, one of our sources deep inside Munich told us that M versions of both the X3 and X4 will be coming out towards the end of 2018 to compete with the likes of the Audi RS Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC 55 AMG and the Macan Turbo. Under the hood of the top model, we’re likely to find a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder mills turbocharged making around 500 HP. The water injection technology showcased on the M4 GTS might be integrated with the revised engine as well.
