Electric mobility does not have to be ho-hum “are we there yet” transportation. That is BMW’s take on the electrification of their cars, and the i3 Coupe Concept is another strong step in the direction of sporty electric driving.

Right after the super sporty i8, the i3 coupe will be BMW’s second sportiest electric car to date, when it finally comes to launch – and we expect it will eventually be found at your local dealership.

Differentiating the i3 Coupe from the regular i3 is a sleeker and wider two-door body. BMW has used its flowing design approach to style the coupe, and highlights can be found at the front of the car as the plastics wrap around from the grill, and along the window line, particularly the rear window area where the window drops down in a swooping shape.

The car has been made slightly wider with sporting intentions in mind – thus road holding has been improved. Like its 4 door brother, the i3 coupe is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that’s putting out 170 horsepower (125 kW) and 184 lb-ft of torque.

On a full charge the i3’s lithium-ion battery will sustain 100 miles of travel in mixed driving conditions. Drive more aggressively and expect that figure to drop.
