The current BMW M4 is on its way out. The F80 M3 has already been put to rest while the M4 still has about a year to go. That means we’re looking at a rather unfair comparison in the video below, as the C63 S AMG is a bit newer than its rival.

The M3/M4 and the Mercedes-AMG C63 models have been rivals for decades. Nowadays though, they are separated by a lot of tech tidbits. The M4 uses a twin-turbo straight six mill with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. You can also have it with a manual, something that’s currently missing from the C63 line-up. The Mercedes also comes with a twin-turbo V8 under the hood, hooked up to a 9-speed automatic.

Certainly, plenty of different things to talk about. The guys from Throttle House explain mostof them but there’s one key aspect we need to discuss here: the exhaust. Normally, the C63 would win this comparison, as AMG models are known for their exhaust sounds. However, regulations in Europe forced Mercedes to fit particulate filters to their cars, including the AMG models. Thus, in this particular comparison, the M4 with its titanium exhaust simply wins it in the sound department.

But that’s not all though. For the first time in a while, the guys are actually in agreement when choosing a winner here and it’s the older BMW M4. How come? Well, it’s the more visceral and the more fun to drive car. The Mercedes-AMG C63 S is more of a cruiser than a sportscar and that shows in all areas. Do you agree?
