BMW is getting ready to let us all enjoy its latest plug-in hybrid offering in the shape of the 530e iPerformance model. The car will bring a couple of innovations to the table, some of them are premieres not only for BMW but also for the auto industry. That’s why the car’s market launch is preceded by a proper marketing strategy employed on all available channels, including using TV commercials like the one posted at the bottom of this page.

The BMW 530e iPerformance model is the latest car to be made part of the iPerformance range and it come with a couple of essential improvements. The car has 252 HP in total, distributed unevenly between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor mounted in between it and the gearbox. The 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged mill under the hood makes 184 HP and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque while the electric motivation comes in the shape of of a 95 HP motor.

The two can’t deliver all of their might at the same time so the total output of the car adds up to about 252 HP and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. It will allow the mid-size sedan to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and then go on up to a top speed of 235 km/h (146mph). But those performance numbers aside, the new 530e also comes with an improved electric range of about 50 km (30 miles) according to BMW.

As good as all that may sound, the most important thing we need to mention about the 530e iPerformance is the way it can be recharged. This will be the first BMW to support wireless charging once the technology is ready, presumably early next year, as BMW’s CEO claimed earlier this week. This would be a first for the industry as well, according to the Bavarians and it will definitely make the car more interesting for a certain demographic. In the meantime, the first commercial of the 530e features a rather interesting idea, forcing a comparison between the plug-in hybrid and a lightning.
