The next-generation of BMW M4 is almost here. When it makes its debut, it won’t be alone, as it will be joined by its racing sibling, the M4 GT3. With the BMW M4 GT3, a new era of customer racing will be born and BMW feels it will be an iconic one. In this new teaser sketch image, we get to see a bit of the face of the M4 GT3.

“With our new GT3 project, we are emphasising the significance of BMW M Customer Racing. It is a central pillar of our motorsport programme,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “With the introduction of the new GT3 regulations for 2022, the BMW M4 is the perfect base. The core product from our colleagues at BMW M is yet again just great. Without wanting to give too much away, the BMW M4 GT3 will be a real highlight in terms of optics and technology. The term ‘icon’ is definitely appropriate here. We want to play a major role in international GT racing with the BMW M4 GT3, as its predecessor did at its victories at the 24-hour races in Spa-Francorchamps, at Macau and in many other race series around the world. Development is already at full speed. The rollout is planned for the second half of 2020.”

BMW M CEO Markus Flasch seems excited about it as well. “It is only logical that future top models in customer racing will be based on the next generation of the BMW M4. We will already be setting new standards in terms of sporting performance in production, which is why it makes sense to present the new GT3 sports car on this platform as well.”

One of the more interesting aspects of this new BMW M4 GT3 teaser image is the face that we can see a certain design element currently polarizing the fan base — its new Kidney Grille. Since the debut of the BMW Concept 4, we’ve known that the next-generation M4 will be getting an enormous grille, one that seems large even by BMW standards today. Fans have been extremely curious about this new grille and they get to see a bit of the design in this new image.

While this is clearly not a production car photo, and the lower half of it is hidden, we can clearly see the top of the new grille design of the BMW M4 GT3. Its grille, at least in this photo, looks to be massive and very similar to the one we saw in some leaked photos a while back. Considering that the M4 GT3 has been designed and built alongside the standard M4, it’s pretty safe to say that this is indicative of the production M4’s grille design.
