This has been a big year for BMW. So far in 2019, we’ve see the debut of the BMW X3 M/X4 M, 8 Series Gran Coupe, M8 Coupe/Convertible, 3 Series Touring and the X5 M/X6 M. So it’s been an exciting year for fans of the Bavarian brand. What’s also interesting is that it’s been a year that’s given us some of the best looking BMWs in a very long time. So I ask you fine readers: what’s the best looking new BMW for 2019?
There are a few great choices, choices that would be hard to argue with. An argument can be made for the BMW M8 Coupe, as it’s a stunning, sleek, two-door coupe that’s as aggressive as it is beautiful. Prior to its reveal, the M850i Coupe was the common choice among fans as the best looking Bimmer. So you’d think that the more aggressive M8 would be even better, right?
One could also argue that the BMW 3 Series Touring is the best-looking new BMW. It’s a choice that’s a bit out of left field but it’s a legitimate contender. There’s something really attractive about this new 3 Series Touring, especially because it also appeals to the brain. Its added practicality and sensibility makes it even more attractive to customers who could use it. For instance, as someone with a small family, the 3 Series Touring is hugely appealing to me; both for my inner enthusiast and my inner pragmatist.
Personally, though, if I had to choose just one new BMW as the best looking, there’s really only one correct choice. I know that style is subjective, so some enthusiasts might disagree with me. However, they’d also be wrong. The best looking new Bimmer is the 8 Series Gran Coupe. Full stop.
Not only does it have all of the same gorgeous attributes of the 8 Series Coupe from the B-pillar forward but it looks even better from behind the B-pillar. Its two extra doors, sleek roofline, muscular rear haunches and built-in rear spoiler all combine to make an achingly pretty car. In person, it’s even better. I was recently at BMW’s HQ in New Jersey and there was an M850i Gran Coupe in Frozen Bluestone Metallic and I had to stop and pick my jaw up. Few Bimmers do that to me nowadays but the 8er GC is stunning in person.
So that’s my personal answer (and the correct one) for the best looking Bavarian at the moment. What’s yours?
I’m the best looking Bavarian at the moment tbh. M850 GC is nice though.
close, but no cigar. LOL
Is that you, Betty?
M Next. 8GC is close but loses a few points for not being proper fastback/hatchback like its segment rivals (Panamera, GT 4doors, A7/RS7 etc).
6 GT.
It’s unique unto itself. Doesn’t compete with aforementioned.
As far as luxury goes, why a hatch? Don’t passengers want the isolation of separate trunk compartment? Or are Rolls, S-Class, Bentley doing it wrong also?
That’s the exact point. There’s already 7 series/M760i with normal bootlid. Also pretty sure you know for a fact Panamera and AMG GT 4 doors are well isolated from their separate hatch compartments.
There is no 8 Series hatchback, since BMW offer 6 & X M hatches, why should there be? VAG & Daimler do not product plan for BMW. Chris Bangle explained the 645i had a B pillar for structural integrity (500 hp. V10 M6), why cut a big hole in a 600+ hp. 0-60<3 sec. luxury performance car?
Porsche, AMG (and even Audi) seem to have produced great hatchback cars without compromise to structural integrity in that same segment (see Panamera and AMG GT 4 doors etc). Hope you’re not suggesting 6GT has a compromised structural integrity with its own hatchback? See, there’s no escaping the fact BMW missed a good opportunity not hatching the 8GC and that decision actually seems a bizarre one.
I’ll never know & don’t care, homely, overweight, overpriced.
Only the 8.
5 and are a bit bland
the 1 is an express request to buy something else
X is inherently not attractive at all.
Have you seen the “competition”?
Yes, in the mirror.
Squeezing pimples.
8 series coupe.
8 Coupe, 5/M5 and the 2/M2C are the only good lookers in the current lineup… and I even have reservations about the 8.
M2 C, M850 Coupe/Gran Coupe, and the M5
Actually, I would add the M340i, and I am not a sedan person. The Touring edition is quite attractive also.
The M340i is really good looking
I’ll reserve judgment until the 2 Series Gran Coupe is revealed……
You mean the BMW Mini?
Isn’t it already the 1 Series sedan? I no more see MINI than I do Countryman when X1 or X2 pass by. Sedan looks good in pix, assume GC will become best-looking car in its segment, not that there’s much competition for that title (any?).
You are you and I am me. Grapes are often served with hot dogs in Cambodia.
There is little to no hope this one is getting away in a good way. Either beaver teeth or hideous face 1 will deliver the looks. Also fwd inevitably creates the goofy looking side profile.
M8 Competition in Frozen Marina Bay Blue. Period. Side profile is perfect, the back end is astonishingly beautiful and the front looks so aggressive. 8 GC is probably the 2nd best looking BMW.
“What’s also interesting is that it’s been a year that’s given us some of the best looking BMWs in a very long time.”
Wow, crack is bad. Everything BMW currently produces looks terrible. BMW could literally pea in your mouth, and you’d discuss how sweet and tasty it is.
*pee
Last car show I attended, BMW had the most cohesive, innovative & best-looking model range. As I keep asking, who is doing better & I never get an answer.
Fully aware that I am the ONLY person who will say this: the X7.
Many customers might agree with you
8 series!!! mediterranean + american look= solid hard rock🤘🏻🤟🏽🎸
M2 Competition, soon to be supplanted by the M2 CS
