The 2020 BMW X3 and X4 models are extremely important for the Bavarian car maker right now. With the world hellbent on buying SUVs and crossovers, and with the X3 and X4 being priced very competitively, a lot of attention needs to be directed in their direction. For the 2020 model year, the two will be getting the latest iDrive 7.0 software and the new BMW Live Professional Cockpit, as per a forum post.
Even though BMW didn’t officially announce these upgrades for the 2020 models, chances are the same rules from the rest of the range will apply. The Live Professional Cockpit feature is an optional feature. In case you don’t want it, along with the new iDrive 7.0, you can simply opt out and stick with the design and features we are all more familiar with.
Yet, the new iDrive system features adjustable tiles on the center mounted screen and the added functionality of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
The cars will get a couple more upgrades, like more USB connectors for charging your devices, more exterior paints and trims as well as more options in the wheels department. It’s all part of BMW’s efforts of keeping its offerings on par with the competition.
Furthermore, the M40i models will also get a bit more power, as we told you already, a while back.
The tachometer is backwards.
Pretty goofy, eh?
Graphics pack for conventional dials please!
This is a very good thing, especially considering that iX3 is coming next year as well on the same platform. It would have been a shame to launch that without iDrive 7.0
One needs to ask the question. What does heat – extreme heat, – as found in South Africa do to these new fancy digital displays? We know it destroys the cell phone displays when left for a time in the vehicle. Maybe conventional analogue might be the answer for some markets in the interests of reliability?
how long has cars had infotainment screens ? pretty long would have by now known if it was bad or not
Bmw have confirmed by email that current cars with idrive 6 will not be retrofitted to idrive 7. What really sucks is that Android Auto will be available on idrive 7 cars only. The natural language capabilities of idrive 6 is no where close to what’s available free in every other car through android auto. I recently upgraded from a hyundai, and while i love my bimmer,i do miss being able to dictate navigation commands via voice during the middle of a drive. Used to work flawlessly with across android auto, is hit or miss with the bimmer. Really wish bmw come up with an option to retrofit idrive6 with android auto for a reasonable fee (like what mazda have done).
