The BMW M1 is possibly one of the unluckiest cars the Germans ever made. Developed initially with Lamborghini, the car was finished without the help of the Italians. Then came the racing fiasco, the Germans failing in getting the car certified to compete in FISA sanctioned competitions. BMW didn’t give up though and created a motorsport competition solely for the M1 dubbed Procar. Some of the best drivers in the world took part in it but since there were only BMW M1 cars racing in it, the competition wasn’t popular for too long.

Out of the 40 BMW M1 Procars ever made, only one was turned into a street legal model. Car number 31 of 40 will be making an appearance at this week’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and will grace the people around it with its beauty. Furthermore, the Thermal Club today announced it will also offer a virtual reality track experience in Monterey for those interested in the car. Motorworks Revival guests will have an opportunity to experience The Thermal Club through an immersive 360-degree virtual reality ride-along offering a thrilling lap around two of the club’s Alan Wilson-designed racetracks. Attendees will also be able to take a virtual tour through the race shop, drivers lounge, clubhouse, restaurant and a track-side villa.

“We look forward to bringing a piece of racing history and a state-of-the-art virtual tour of our club to this exclusive event,” said The Thermal Club Founder Tim Rogers. “Enthusiasts from around the globe head to Monterey Car Week to celebrate automotive history and enjoy the incredible amenities around the Peninsula. These are precisely the people who will appreciate the unique attributes of The Thermal Club.”

McCall’s Motorworks Revival will feature rare cars, racing legends, private jets, vintage airplanes, live music and fine cuisine. The event also benefits the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation. The 1979 BMW M1 Procar was restored by renowned racer Bruce Canepa and, as you can see from the photos, was finished in Basalt Blau while the interior sports an all-black leather finish.
