The 20th edition of the Silvretta Classic took place earlier this month and BMW was on the scene to showcase some of its timeless beauties. The BMW Classic branch of the brand was most noticeable on the trails and along with it we got to see none other than Prince Leopold of Bavaria behind the wheel of a classic BMW 328 Mille Miglia Roadster, the same one that took part in this year’s Sinaia Concours d’Elegance.

Prince Leopold is, as you may know, a BMW brand ambassador but his passion for the famous blue and white roundel goes back many years, a long time before he was approached for a collaboration. Getting to drive the 328 was truly an unique experience, as this is one of only three remaining cars of its kind in the world. Even if the car was recently restored, the technology on-board is still really old and you do need to be rather careful when behind its wheel, as things as elementary as braking might prove to be more complicated than you thought.

Another special car present at the Silvretta Classic in Austria was a 1957 BMW 507 Roadster that was driven around by some very lucky journalists. Having been recently restored as well, it was probably the best looking car over there, even though such rankings might be subjective. Nevertheless, seeing its red interior we had flashbacks of the car Elvis used to own that was also recently brought back to life by the same BMW Classic division.

Hosted for the first time in 1998, the Silvretta Classic turned 20 this year and celebrated in proper fashion. What sets this event apart from others around the world is the fact that you don’t need your own classic car in order to participate in it. The organizers have a deal set up with Retro Promotion GmbH, a company specialized in renting classic cars to enthusiasts for events like this one. For the right price – depending in what kind of car you want to drive – you can go for a stroll in the Austrian Alps alongside a prince, a timeless BMW and a beautiful roadster like the 507.
