Last month, rumormill surrounding a BMW Z2 model churned once again. Over the past few years, the Z2 Roadster subject has been debated over and over again with some sources confirming the smaller roadster while others declared it dead even before a prototype was built.
A source close to UK magazine Autocar said last month that a Z3-like model is being considered. “It is of similar size to the E36/7 [the codename for the original Z3] but is planned to use the front-wheel-drive platform to keep costs down and achieve a margin level that ensures it is sustainable at comparatively low production volumes,” said the source.
If it comes to market, the Z2 will make use of the new front-wheel drive platform which will allow the company to lower its production costs. The small roadster will compete against the popular and very successful Mazda MX-5 and also against a new Alfa Romeo roadster dubbed Spyder.
Under the hood, the Bavarians will fit turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0 liter engines with a power range from 170 to 300 horsepower.
As with any rumors, renderings are having a field day and these latest images offer their own perspective on the design of the Z2.
