The upcoming BMW i4 might be the most exciting and hotly anticipated electric car in the brand’s pipeline. While the BMW iNEXT and iX3 are going to be important cars for the brand, in terms of sales and technology, it’s the i4 that enthusiasts want. That’s because it’s going to be a sporty, (supposedly) sexy looking four-door coupe that just so happens to be electric.

We won’t see the BMW i4 in the flesh for quite a while but we do get to see it wrapped in camouflage in these new spy photos. (We don’t own the photos but you can see them here)

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the BMW i4 in spy photos before. Though, it is probably the best look at it we’ve had thus far. In these photos, we get to see what looks like a BMW four-door coupe that seems to wear the upcoming 4 Series’ design language, which itself is based off of the G20 3er’s.

We know it’s an i4, though, and not just a run-of-the-mill 4 Series Gran Coupe due to two things: one is the lack of actual exhausts (though there are some fake exhaust decals on the camo to try and throw us off) and the other is the “Electric Test Vehicle” sticker on the side of the car.

What is new is the fact that we can see its interior in these spy photos. To be honest, it’s a bit disappointing. It looks identical to the interior found in the G20 3 Series. While it’s a handsome cabin and one that packs great build quality, impressive technology and superb ergonomics, it doesn’t exactly scream “high-tech electric sports sedan”. We would have liked a few changes to the cabin to make it feel more special than the average 3 Series lease special. Admittedly, it might actually get some unique changes, as this is most likely just a very early test mule, but it looks like a 3er inside as it stands now.

There aren’t really any official specs for the BMW i4 but BMW is claiming that it should be quite impressive. Without giving out any official numbers, BMW did make some preliminary projections for its performance and range. For instance, it should be capable of around 600 km (373 miles) of range and get from 0-60 mph in about four seconds. If those stand true, the i4 will be a very impressive vehicle and one that could steal customers away from even BMW’s own 3 Series.
