BMW takes its X cars into the mountains for a snow playing session. The new X1 joins the X3, X4, X5 and X6 models in showcasing the capabilities of the all-wheel drive xDrive system.

Today, BMW offers – in 12 car series – more than 110 variants of the BMW xDrive system, including a plug-in hybrid sports car BMW i8 and the BMW 225xe Active Tourer with electrified all-wheel drive.

In the current generation of all-wheel drive system, the xDrive is part of the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) for reliable detection and assessment of driving situations.

The X1 is the first X model to be built upon a front-wheel drive architecture, so compared to the other family members, it can be ordered with FWD.

In 2018, a new BMW X7 will join the lineup as a high-end, luxury SUV. An X2 is also rumored to arrive around the same time.
