Despite initial design criticism of the BMW 1 Series F20, the small premium BMW is one of the most successful models in the compact class. In Germany alone, over 37,500 customers have purchased the 1 Series in 2014.

But now, the F20/F21 models are due for a facelift which will arrive in March 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Customers can look forward to an extensive optical revision of the front and rear. Changes are also coming under the hood with the introduction of new engines.

Therefore, the BMW 118d, 120d and 125d will use the new four-cylinder diesel BMW B47 engine, with significantly improved acoustics and power: 150 PS (118 d) and 190 PS (120d). The BMW 125d F20 LCI should get a bit more power than the currently specified 218 hp.

Below the four-cylinder variants, BMW keeps the new three-cylinder engines B37 and B38 as a viable option for the economical entry-level models.

Which variants are planned in detail can be based of the new MINI F56 and BMW 2 Series Active recognize Tourer – to be expected, for example, 95 hp and 116 hp diesel models as a replacement for 114d and 116d, and 102 hp and 136 hp petrol engines as a replacement for 114i and 116i.

No major changes are expected for the BMW M135i and its six-cylinder engine.
