Motorcyle News publishes the first review of the new BMW K1600GT. Back in October 2010, after much anticipation and hype in the preceding weeks, BMW finally released official photos of their new flagship touring machines, the K1600 series bikes. The new touring bike features a supreme in-line 6-cylinder engine with a high level of pulling power, especially in the lower and medium engine speed range.
Engine output is 118 kW (160 bhp) at 7,750 rpm and maximum torque 175 Nm at 5,250 rpm. Over 70 per cent of the maximum torque is already available from 1,500 rpm.
The engine powering the BMW K1600GT is the lightest and most compact 6-cylinder in-line engine in serial motorcycle production over 1000 cc, weighing just 102.6 kg and measuring 555 mm in width.
Our review of the BMW K1600GT will be coming up in the next months, but in the mean time, enjoy this first report.
A very positive review. I was quite surprised at how vocal the engine is, I was expecting a much more ‘cruisey’ type of sound. However, this wil draw the buyers – no doubt.
Is there a date to the Europe debut?
Oh my… looks great and sounds great. Can’t wait to get my hands on the bike.
> Is there a date to the Europe debut?
The K1600 GT and GTL where presented in Belgium on the car and bike show here in Brussels, Belgium at the end of January. Those where pre-production models. I believe the production has started in the meantime if I remember correctly what the dealer said. There is no real launch date. Bikes are delivered like they are ordered, first come first served.
I got mine ordered mid January and expect the K1600GTL to be delivered early June.
Thanks!
So i’d expect it in the dealers anytime soon?
You should check with your local BMW dealer to get more detailed information.
