Follow this categoryIn an interview for Automobile Magazine, BMW North American CEO, Jim O’Donnell, expressed his enthusiasm for BMW’s new generation 6 Series due to launch in 2011. Calling it “Best-looking BMW in years”, O’Donnell certainly gives hopes to everyone that the new redesigned 6er will be the high-end bimmer we have all been waiting for.
According to Mr. O’Donnell, the next next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. He agrees that the current 6-Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, will be a “super sleek” vehicle.
While O’Donnell doesn’t get into the specific design details, he mentions that the next-generation 6 Series will retain the overall dimensions of the current car, but it will more svelte looking. Unfortunately for the BMW fans, that’s all the information he was able to confirm at this moment.
2011 BMW 6 Series Rendering
Two years ago at the same Frankfurt Auto Show, the famous German tuner Alpina unveiled their own version of the BMW 6 Series: B6 S Coupe. Once again, Alpina decided to bring out their B6 Coupe model along with many other Alpina models displayed in Frankfurt.
B6 S Coupe stands out with its aggressive front fascia, the interesting bonnet on the hood and the abundance of carbon fiber parts. The interesting bonnet helps with better cooling ensuring that the 530 ponies are running as expected.
Alpina B6 S Coupe is powered by a V8 4.4 liter engine which receives boost from a so-called ”radial compressor”, which one may visualize as a combination of a turbo and a compressor. The charging system in this engine differs from conventional solutions: not a turbo but also not a super-charger.
The 2011 BMW 6 Series was video spied by the folks at Edmunds Insideline. A 6er prototype shows up at the Nurburgring track for more testing and for the first time, judging by the engine sound, we believe we’re looking at test mule powered by the powerful 4.4 liter V8 twin-turbo engine.
As we learned in the past, several powerplants will be available for the new 6 Series, starting with the the twin-turbo 6-cylinder 326 horsepower engine, followed by a 6-cylinder diesel as well and as a surprise, the newly developed, but not yet released, Tri-Turbo 6-cylinder diesel which produces 354 horsepower.
And since we’re moving towards more fuel efficient luxury sport cars, BMW will offer a model under the 655 naming convention which is powered by the hybrid powertrain from the X6 and 7 Series hybrids.
A 6 Series rendering created together with Promotor.ro
We’re back with our “What if….” articles and this time, we have some renderings of the next generation 2011 BMW 6 Series. We have been working together with our friends at Promotor.ro and their graphic artist in creating some computer generated images of what the generation 6 Series might look like.
Okay, maybe not what it will look like, but mostly what we believe it will be interesting if it will follow this design path. Sure, some might argue that the front-end is a bit too close to the CS Concept, and yes, you are absolutely right, but as far as the headlights, we might be onto something here.
The rear-end was even more difficult to illustrate since the spy photos we have seen so far have not helped much, in terms of revealing useful details, but hey….we gave it a try and honestly, we wouldn’t mind if it would turn out to be designed like this.
Ahead of the Geneva Auto Show, Alpina decided to unveil their latest B6 GT3 model. Based on the BMW 6 Series Coupe, Alpina returns to FIA GT3 European Championships. with their GT3 race car.
Delivering 530 hp and 720 Nm of torque from a supercharged 4.4 liter V8 engine, the Alpina B6 GT3 will be offered to both individual customers and race teams. It uses a 6-speed sequential gearbox and only weighs 2,976 lbs.
Top speed? 177 mph and accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
Finally we get to see some new prototypes being driven around. Moving away from all the Z4, PAS, 7 Series shots, today we have the next generation 2010 BMW 6 Series, codename F13. With the current car being already very successful, BMW will not drastically change the design.
What we know is that the front headlights will be similar to the ones on the CS Concept but will not have the circular cut out, just a straight across slit. Longer than today’s model, the 2010 6-Series will offer more legroom for rear passengers. At the same time, it will get a sportier cockpit with a more driver oriented console layout.
We also learned that the convertible will be offered with a folding hardtop, like the new 3-Series convertible.
The rumor going around is that there will be three engine options, 306, 408, and 507 horsepower and of course the new eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters.
That’s all we really know for now, but hopefully we will hear more soon.
One of the most innovative car tuners is Lithuanian national who decided to "pimp out" a BMW 6 Series and turn into….hmm, not sure what I would call it. His latest project looks like an extravagant car that not many would be able to reproduce.
He basically took a standard BMW 6 Series and modified most of the exterior and interior components. The body suffered changes at all levels, including the fenders, hood, back-end and exhaust pipes. To give the car an even more exotic and "screaming" look, he replaced the standard wheels with some super-sized ones, somewhere around 26"-28".
The car was spotted somewhere in Lithuania and we have no doubt that it turns many heads.
Should we fly there and drive it?

BMW's next generation 6-series coupe and cabrio won't be available until late 2010, however we can get a pretty accurate look at how it will look thanks to these renderings. The new design is expected to grow in size and feature a sportier design and also sit lower than the current out going model. There are rumors the car will be offered with two different versions, a more luxurious GT and an aggressive sports model. The engine is unfortunately supposed to carry over untouched, but the new M6 will get a twin turbo V-10 and dual clutch transmission.[Source:Motor Authority]

BMW has unveiled the new facelifted BMW 6-Series Coupe and Convertible, which brings many updates to the 2+2 GT including a new turbodiesel engine variant as well as updated interiors and exteriors. The new faeclifted BMW 6-Series will come in 630i, 635d, and 650i forms, and will all be rear-wheel drive.![]()
The base BMW 630i model comes with a 3.0 liter straight-six making 272 horsepower at 6,700rpm and 320Nm of torque peaking between 2,750 and 3,000rpm, while the BMW 635d turbodiesel uses BMW?s award winning 3.0 liter twin turbodiesel engine making 286 horsepower at 4,400rpm and massive churning power of 580Nm between 1,750rpm and 2,250rpm. The top of the line BMW 650i has a 4.8 liter V8, putting out 367 horsepower at 6,300rpm and 490Nm of torque at 3,400rpm. All engines have the option of BMW?s new quick-locking 6-speed auto gearbox which made it?s debut in the 335i, helping reduce transmission losses as well as achieving faster shifts.
BMW’s followup to the dramatic 6-Series won’t bring anything shocking to the table, but it should address concerns with the existing model and increase the large coupe’s competitiveness, according to a new report by Germany’s AutoBild.
While the current 6-Series ? introduced in 2004 ? is arguably one of BMW’s most aggressive and controversial designs, its successor won’t do anything to push the envelope further. Instead, it will serve to move the 6er further toward grand tourer territory.
Longer than today’s model, the 2011 6-Series will offer more legroom for rear passengers. At the same time, it will get a sportier cockpit with a more driver oriented console layout.
