These two German luxury brutes are some of the fastest sedans on the planet. When it comes to blasting across continents at absurd speeds while cossetting passengers in supreme comfort, the only thing better than these two cars is a G6 private jet. Both the BMW M760Li and Mercedes-AMG S63 are the tippy-top of each manufacturer’s luxury lineup and both feature tons of power and tons of luxury. So if you’re in the market for something that can waft you along to your business meeting in the back seat during the day but become Autobahn stormers at night, look no further than these two cars. But which one to buy? Obviously, buy whichever one is faster.

In this video from AutoTopNL, both of the leather-lined cruise missiles take to the Autobahn to see which accelerates faster and which has the higher top speed. The Mercedes-AMG S63 packs a twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine that makes 603 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, which is monstrous. The BMW M760Li makes 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, which is normally an insane amount of power and could only be outdone by the AMG. The AMG uses a nine-speed automatic produced in-house by Mercedes-Benz while the BMW M760Li uses a ZF-sourced eight-speed auto. Both power all four wheels.

At first, the BMW M760Li gets a better start. It’s faster to 60 mph than the AMG is in this video. However, the AMG starts to pull ahead after they both crest 100 km/h (62 mph) and begins to out-muscle the BMW. It also hits its 315 km/h top speed quicker than the BMW. So it’s clear that the AMG S63’s extra power does end up helping. However, the BMW M760Li has the jump on the AMG off the line.

Both cars are incredibly fast and, even more impressive, both cars are rock-solid stable at those insane speeds. Hell, they’re quiet, too. Anyone would be happy to own either of them and drive them, or be driven in them, everyday.
