Our sister-magazine Bimmertoday has recently embarked on a long trip from Munich to Lake Como, Itally for the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The transport of choice was the all-new and shinny BMW i8 in the beautiful Protonic Blue color. But before the team headed up north through the Alps, they stopped for a photoshoot on the premises of the BMW Welt and BMW Museum in Munich.

Despite the persistent rain, Christian Wimmer managed to snap some cool photos of the progressive hybrid sports car.

The standard i8 model combines the exterior color of the hybrid sportscar with blue accents, a staple color for the new i sub-brand. The new color combination is quite unique and makes the i8 stand out even more on the road. BMW i8 can be specified in a choice of four colors, three of which have been created exclusively for BMW i. All the paint finishes provide a striking contrast to the black belt: Ionic Silver, Crystal White and Sophisto Grey.

BMW i8 uses a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and BMW eDrive technology in the form of an electric drive system.

The 1.5-liter combustion engine develops 170 kW/231 hp and drives the rear wheels of the BMW i8, while the 96 kW/131 hp electric drive sends its power to the front wheels and allows an all-electric range of up to 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). Thanks to the all-wheel drive, the acceleration to 62 mph (100 km/h) comes in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
