In an interview with AutoExpress, a MINI engineer revealed that the UK based automaker is considering a diesel version of the John Cooper Works, the tuned up version of a MINI. There have been many rumors circulating the web in the past year, rumors which placed the launch date of a JCW diesel model sometimes in 2010.
There are no plans to sacrifice the performance specific to a JCW vehicle and the new diesel variant will offer more torque and engine power. The car is rumored to be named Cooper D and it will most likely be powered by a modified 1.6 liter turbo-diesel engine.
Unfortunately for the MINI fans, the car will not be available this year, since the company is focusing most of their efforts on the newly unveiled MINI Convertible and the upcoming crossover SUV.
