One of the stars at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show is without any doubt the new BMW Concept 4. Although it’s only a concept, BMW says the Concept 4 Series is 85 percent representative of what the production-ready 4 Series will look like.

So what does that mean? Firstly, the future BMW i4 electric car will have a similar design, including the controversial and extroverted kidney grille.

Secondly, the new G82 BMW M4 and also the G80 M3 will inherit the front-fascia from the BMW Concept 4 Series.

Thirdly, this is not a one-off design exercise, so we should all expect bold BMW models to come out in the next few years. With the included oversized kidney grille.

BMW says that the Concept 4 takes inspiration from the classic 328 and 3.0 CSL models, which it references in its sweeping exterior lines. Currently, the LED lights have no glass cover but are worked into the body instead.

But don’t expect to see that on the production model.

The good news is the rear-three quarter view is sharp looking, and it includes a new interpretation of the iconic Hofmeister Kink.

The car is expected to debut next summer and sales should commence in late 2020 or early the following year.
