Even before the official reveal of the BMW 8 Series Coupe, fans and enthusiasts alike were banging the drum for the release of yet another 8 Series model — the Gran Coupe. Since the departure of the 6 Series Gran Coupe, we’ve known that a new version based on the 8er would be made.

Now ahead of its unveil in June 2019, BMW is teasing us with a photo of the upcoming BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. The four-door luxury coupe will debut at the BMW Group #NextGen event set to be held at BMW Welt in Munich on 25 – 27 June 2019.

As seen here, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe stands out with an elongated coupe look , with two extra doors and therefore, more space for rear passengers. The car is built on an extended platform of the 8 Series Coupe, but with the same luxurious materials and powerful engines.

It also gets a traditional Hofmeister Kink, rather than the odd one on the new 3 Series, and it has a smoothly sweeping roofline, which not only looks good but seems like it will give rear occupants some nice headroom. Out back there’s a subtle decklid spoiler that gives it a sportier look. The M850i Gran Coupe will also get the typical trapezoidal exhausts.

The car in question is the the M850i variant which will be the top model of the 8 Series family, powered by a 530 hp 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which, in the Coupe, is capable of delivering a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.7 seconds; that figure is likely to increase in the Gran Coupe.

The car’s world premiere will be one of the highlights of the inaugural BMW Group #NextGen event in Munich. The worldwide launch of the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will begin just a few months later, in September 2019.
