Just the other day BMW decided to tease us ahead of the full reveal of the new Z4 and published a couple of photos of pre-production sketches telling us in the process that a First Edition model will be launched. As soon as we heard, we presumed the First Edition models will come with a set of special features like a paint color and some exclusive finishes for the interior, but we weren’t exactly sure whether it will be offered with only one engine choice or not.

Today, as the officials took the veils off the new Z4, more details popped up. The BMW Z4 First Edition Roadster comes in M40i guise only. That means it will have 340 PS in Europe and 382 HP in the US. Due to the new WTLP testing procedure, different power outputs for the same model will become more and more common as they used to be in the 1990s. Back then, it was the US customers who had to suffer more, as usually the North American-bound cars from BMW had less HP than the ones sold in Europe. These days the table has turned.

The First Edition cars come in Frozen Orange Metallic which is combined with an electrically operated textile soft top in anthracite with silver effect, the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, black exterior mirror caps and 19-inch light alloy wheels boasting a two-tone, double spoke design. The interior of the First Edition model features Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats with memory function and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.

Adaptive LED headlights, BMW Head-Up Display featured for the first time in a BMW roadster and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two high resolution digital displays, offering the latest networking technology are all on offer in the all-new Z4 Roadster as well. Deliveries will kick off in Spring 2019 and they will also coincide with the introduction of the Z4 30i model which will have about 260 HP on offer from a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine.
