In just a weeks time, BMW will finally reveal to the world the all-new G30 5 Series. Ahead of its online debut, several prototypes are still being currently tested around the world while slowly revealing more about the redesigned premium sedan.
These spy photos from Germany are giving us the first look at the lower fascia of the G30 5er, along with the design of the hood and rear bumper. The BMW 5 Series 2017 carries a strikingly molded kidney grille with headlights directly connected; compared to the 7 Series, the kidneys fall somewhat flat and let the 5 Series look even more dynamic.
The hood is also different from the 7er, with strong lines running from the top of the hood all the way to the outer edge of the grille, which also features a massive chrome frame.
The LED headlights feature a prominent eyebrow at the top which flows directly into the side of the kidney grille. Within the model shown here, the front skirt has a continuous air inlet for improving the air resistance in the front wheel arches. Earlier spy photos had already shown that the BMW G30 5 Series G30 will sport the Air Breather air outlets behind the front wheels to provide better wheel arch ventilation.
The rear end is sleeker and sportier than the current F10 5 Series with a subtle rear spoiler present on the trunk, and L-shaped headlights wrapping around the curvy rear panels.
The first customers will be able to receive their 5 Series in spring 2017 and a few months later, the new BMW G31 5 Series Touring will follow with largely identical technology.

… what the difference with the old one ? …
BMW is starting to do like Audi: car by the meter. From the 1er to the 7er, they all look the same and it’s starting to be hard to distinguish the new from the old !
The car will look like a mini 7 series but much better. Already saw it.
Don’t get me wrong, it looks good. But come on, I’d like some “new” sometimes…
It’s not like Audi, but like Mercedes: FIRST there was the S Class, then there were all the other Mercedes’ that look like the S Class. Now, FIRST there was the 7 Series and now (next week) there is (will be) the new G30 5 Series. Which will look (a bit) alike. Whereas the overpriced VW’s ALL look alike and have a VERY BORING design. The A8 looks like an A4, not the other way around, so the more expensive car looks like the cheaper car. The 5 Series looks like the 7 Series, NOT the other way around. So the cheaper car looks like the more expensive one. See the difference?
That’s a way to see things … not sure it makes much difference to me though …
Well, you tried ;-)
The difference is that the E and the C look like they belong to an higher class while the A8 and the A6 look cheaper than what they actually are. The 5 will look like a more dynamic version of BMW’s premium sedan, while the A8 currently looks like an overpriced and oversized midsize “saloon”.
EXACTLY!!
you do understand they do it to save money lol all these companies just wanna make money you wont see that NEW design untill the next next 5 series.
Horatiu, I’ve seen the car yesterday evening also. I wouldn’t say it looks like a mini 7! The car it’s just an evolution from the F10 (and obviously will look more like the current F10 than the 7er). For the interior, there are cues from the 7er, from the i8 and….from Alfa Romeo Giulia! Just wait and see when you will get into the car for the first time.
Anyhow, from my point of view, it’s the nicest interior I’ve seen in a BMW so far, I would say even much better than the 7er G30! They didn’t take the chrome buttons for the widows from the 7er, but they kept them black, like in the current F10.
The rear end of the car, I would say it brings a bit like the current Lexus IS (you will understand this when you will see the car).
Overall, exterior its…meh..while the interior it’s WOW!
I would say it has big chances to keep its lead against the new E Klasse.
My mistake..the 7er is G11.
Are you kidding me? BMW has been doing that for years. How much diffrent do you want 4 door sedans from the same maunufacturer to look? There have been a few exceptions over the years, like that ugly Bangle period for the 5 & 7, but that should just be forgotten.
Come on, there was a time where the 1er was much different from the 3er.
Now the 1er is so wide you cannot tell what BMW it is when you have one behind you !
Let’s not even discuss the M packs that are available on 18d !
The bonnet looks “E60-like”.
Looks very promising to me, seems like the car will have a stronger character than the 7 (which makes sense). There is still a fair amount of camo though, and it seems to cover the most interesting parts at the rear.
It also looks like they’ve done an effort in the cabin quality-wise, which is good.
Might turn good after all !
Ugh, if they make the kidneys any larger it’ll look like a Lincoln from the front.
I dont car how it looks or not..;. I wanna finally better interior than current Mercs :( , which acodring the spy photos, wont happen again ..so another 8 years lost :(
Mercedes interiors are overrated.
Oh yes they are..They are just blending. If u are feeling the buttins etc. its definitely not as good as people are praising. And forget the usability, its a mess, especially in the new E with its big display (which gets very hot btw.) and very bad control logic, steering wheel or idrive or buttons?
e class interior is a pile of shit, its like sitting in a knock off cheap s class. only the s has a nice interior in the merc line up. the 5 series interior will be away above the e class interior.
As the current owner and user of f10 m5 this car doesn’t interest me at all. I still can’t see how guys in Munich will try to cater to F10 users with this. Unless next M5 will be unbelievable good both in looks as in drive characteristics.
i think you should sit in it and drive it before you decide it will be a awesome car
No doubt about that, but if car doesn’t appeal to you at this stage, you think it can change?
I hope so.
Guys the new 5er g30 and g31 believe me is really good , specially in M sport configuration.
Inside is 100% the 7 series. The outside View is more strong than the f10, more dynamic. Sure is not a revolution but a big step ahead.
The munich tech people say to me that on the road the g30 is really another world.
The pictures is not so real like the real.
Sorry for my english.
Bye
Nicola,
Let me contradict you: the interior is not 100% 7er! Yes, partly the central dash looks similar, and that’s it. It’s more driver oriented from both sides, more than you’d expect.
Of course, all the goodies from the 7 are there: the gestures, the lcd keyfob, audio top is bowers&wilkins, it has semi autonomous driving, autonomous parking and all what is currently in the 7.
The M sport steering wheel I would say it’s a bit bulky, and it has a lot of chrome on it.
Some people were asking what’s the small button in the center below the airbag: it’s the steering wheel heating button.
They said they will have 4 engines: 2L diesel + gas for 520d and 530i, and 3L diesel + gas for 530d and 540i (which was presented yesterday evening) .
Ok probably not 100% but very close to 7. This is good, and for me the impression was very good. I come from f11 and when i’m seat inside the g31 the first impact leave me without words, but anyway for me will be a great car. I hope that the steer will be real better than f11. Bye at all
Anxious to see this… Wish they came more aggressive but will wait to judge it in person. The new 7 doesn’t wow me on the streets. Will have to see this in the 5 series – M Package.
I know this sounds hypocritical since I’m on this site but all these leaks and spy shots are ruining the wow factor at the official launch. It’s the same thing with phones; by the time they are released, everyone knows exactly what it looks like.
The rear end is so similar to an F10 they don’t even need to camoflauge it.
