BMW has just released a new top model for its 3 Series family. The 340i and 340i xDrive models are replacing the previous top dog, the 335i.
The 340i will be the first BMW to use the six-cylinder engine from the EfficientDynamics engine family. Replacing the outgoing 3.0 liter turbocharged six in the 335i, the 340i’s six will produce 326 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque and achieve 7.7-6.5 liters per 100km (30 mpg US). The new, all-aluminum six-cylinder engine will be both powerful and efficient, more so than the outgoing six.
The 340i be available with six-speed manual transmissions and eight-speed, ZF automatics.
BMW says the 340i with the xDrive system and 8-speed automatic can run to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds, while the rear-wheel drive 340i adds two tenths of a second.
The video shows the new 2015 BMW 340i running all the way to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 12.05 seconds.
Not bad for a 320hp sedan. As fast as the Golf R with a manual…
And not as fast as a Golf R with DSG.
340i xDrive is
That is a bit sad, considering BMW claimed a 0-60 of 4.8 for the outgoing less powerful 335i xDrive, and a matching 5.1 for the 335i. That said, MotorTrend tested the 335i xDrive at 4.4 seconds, so there is hope BMW is just being extra conservative with the 340i.
you’re comparing 0-62mph for the 340 to 0-60mph for the 335. The 340 will be quicker than a stock 335, HOWEVER, it will likely only match the MotorTrend test you’re referring to for the 335, because that car had the M Performance Power Kit, so it was putting out the exact same power as the new 340. Until BMW comes out with an MPPK for the 340 (which hopefully happens quickly since Audi has a new 350hp+ S4 coming and Benz already has a 362hp C450), the new car without it probably isn’t going to be any quicker in a straight line than the old one was with it (though I am curious to see what a full test of a 340 with Track Pack and Super Sport tires does, since you couldn’t get those tires on the 335).
just get it remaped and it will do it in 4.4
