A Ferrari 458 Speciale goes head-to-head in a drag race with the new BMW i8. Two cars that cater to different demographics, yet they are both exotic and unique in their own way. The 458 Speciale Aperta is built upon the 458 Spider featuring a V8 4.5 liter engine producing 605 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. It weighs 3,186 lbs.

BMW i8 uses a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and BMW eDrive technology in the form of an electric drive system.

The 1.5-liter combustion engine develops 170 kW/231 hp and drives the rear wheels of the BMW i8, while the 96 kW/131 hp electric drive sends its power to the front wheels.

Thanks to its carbon-fiber structure, the i8 weighs in at 3,455 lbs.

Judging by the numbers, the 458 Aperta should easily beat the i8 in straight line, but can BMW’s hybrid sports car at least keep up with Ferrari’s supercar?
