The 2016 BMW M2 makes an appearance late night on the Autobahn. The black painted M2 test mule was spotted near Munich and the close up photos give us a closer look at the proportions of the new compact M car. The most striking feature of these spy photos is always the considerably wider wheel arches and wider track which features front and rear axle suspension technology from the BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M3 Sedan.

The direct steering of the middle-class athletes, the brake system and the M differential lock on the rear axle, are almost unchanged in the M2 in order to give the new M car unparallelled dynamics.

Under the hood, we believe the F87 M2 will not use the inline-six turbo from the new M3 and M4 – even detuned – but rather an updated version of the N55 TwinPower 3.0 liter engine (N55B30T0) with 370 horsepower. The M2 prototype runs with both a manual and automatic transmission so we expect both options to be available in the production series.

The Centernet system of U.S. dealerships now lists the BMW M2 with a production date of November, 15, 2015, a we have previously mentioned.

While production kicks off in November globally, the first deliveries will only take place in March 2016.
