Due to launch in 2011, the BMW 6 Series family will continue to offer its well known variants: Coupe, Cabrio and M6. Several rumors around the brand mention the possibility of a fourth model to join the 6 Series, a four-dour coupe model that could carry the GT name. The latest spy photos gives us a glance at what the next 6er might look like which according to top BMW officials will be a “super sleek” vehicle and one of the best looking BMWs.
The new 2012 BMW 6 Series will not be a twin-brother to the highly acclaimed and much missed CS Concept. Most of the design cues from CS will make their way into the 6 Series GT.
The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look. The convertible will continue to be offered with a soft top, despite some previous false reports.
The interior design has also been re-drawn from ground up and it is being said to reflect some of the design cues seen in the Z4 Roadster, so expect a very driver oriented dashboard and plenty of sporty elements.
Engine wise, the new 6 Series will feature a combination of diesel and petrol offerings. The high-end diesel model will be the 640d, powered by the N57 turbocharged straight-6 common rail diesel engine outputting 306 horsepower. A hybrid version is being considered, but no greenlight has been given yet.
The 650i will be the highest offering powered by the 4.4 liter V8 Twin-turbo engine.
The new BMW 6 Series will be unveiled this fall and will make its world debut at Geneva Motor Show in 2011.
