BMW and Pininfarina collaborate on one of the most polarizing concepts we have seen lately. The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe debuts tonight at the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and brings exclusive design aspects such as luxury and elegance into the exciting concept.

BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe stands out with its long wheelbase, stretched bonnet and set-back greenhouse. The typical BMW design elements are present, double- kidney grille and twin circular LED headlights.

The “kidneys” are angled towards the road, citing the typical BMW “shark nose” and lending the front end an even more dynamic look, particularly when seen from the side. The front part of the bipartite kidney grille is made of matte-sheen aluminium, while behind it an identically shaped part in high-gloss black adds visual depth and makes for an exciting contrast of materials.

The large air intake made out of chrome enhances the wide-look of the car.  A discreet Pininfarina lettering points to the contributing partner from Italy.  Another Pininfarina lettering is found in the side panel points. The convex taperings on the side add a dynamic elegance and give the body a tautly athletic shape.

The long roof line flows elegantly into the rear to define the short tail end. Below the shoulder line, a striking countersweep to the roof line emanates from the Air Breather behind the front wheel.

The exclusively designed 21-inch wheels perfectly augment the sporty and elegant design by the two companies.

At the rear-end, an eye-catching detail is the transition from the roof to the rear lid: two elaborately shaped struts extend the roof pillar towards the rear, ensuring an elegantly fluid transition of the roof line into the tail section.

The taillights maintain the typical BMW L-shape design that wrap tightly around the rear quarter. A particular highlight is their open design, allowing air to flow through them.

Inside, BMW and Pininfarina combine sportiness, exclusivity and comfort for a unique interior experience. With a special color concept, choice materials and geometrical details in the doors, center console and dashboard binnacle, Pininfarina lends further emphasis to signature BMW elements such as the driver focus and layering principle, while accentuating the sporty character of the interior with a fine instinct for cutting-edge and elegant details alike.

The exclusive color and material concept is one of the stand-out features of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe. The high-grade leather from the Foglizzo leather factory – in black and a light shade of Tobacco Brown – creates a warm, exclusive ambiance. Kauri wood has a unique grain and shifts in color from gold to red to brown, depending on the incidence of light and angle of view.

Stay tuned for live photos of the V12 BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe from Villa D’Este.

Just beautiful !! best looking BMW .

I wish they would create a dynamic and agile car that could compete and be above the R8 and SLS and be a top end car for BMW – and something I would buy – instead of this. Big bulky, rolls royce like and applied to a couple – almost Aston like but not there – and it doesn’t do much for me besides showing off. Can you imagine trying to park this bulky ‘coupe’ in the city? This cars design reminds me of Jaguar and that is not a good thing. They have young people in the hero images for the car, but with the wood grain and 50′s leather inside that makes it look to me like a coupe for 45+ year old. I am massive fan of BMW, but it frustrates me how long I have waited for them to do a high end performance couple.. and this is not it.
