Now in its third generation, the new BMW 6 Series Coupé takes the luxury 2+2 concept a step further by matching enhanced comfort and elegant design with sporting performance on a even higher level. The BMW 6 Series Coupé features a sweeping coupé roofline while the long bonnet, short over-hangs, set-back passenger compartment with Hofmeister kink, long wheelbase and flat waistline embody the typical proportions of a BMW coupé more than any other model.

Two exceptional BMW turbocharged petrol engines and a twin turbocharged diesel powerplant, a newly developed chassis and a host of class-leading driver assistance technology ensure that the new BMW 6 Series Coupé is full of substance, while interior space and comfort have been enhanced.

… Are those “combined MPG” numbers even close to reality?!

they are, but  take with a grain… and salt.  You need to have a feather-foot to match those numbers, but its possible.

The 640d sounds great on paper and it will sell like crazy, but the prestige and the soundtrack is missing from it. A diesel luxo coupe that’s more of a bragging car then a sport car ?
I know it is different times then the 80’s and 90’s but still, a nice raspy exhaust and a thundering V8 or a clattering economy mode diesel ?  If it is an every day car, no trouble with the diesel, but the weekend car that gets a few thousand miles a year ? give me a V8 V10 V12 with a sound that somewhat reminds me of the Ferrari :-)

but I’m not in a market for the 6 series so its irrelevant.  I’m pretty sure a lot of people will use it for nothing  else but to go to work and get home. For those the 640s is the best choice with no badge on the trunk lid :-)

amazing what BMW can do with the diesels, its a real shame that they won’t bring them to the US. OK. there are 2 models, but it should be 10-15 models and 4 cyl diesel as well,  at least in the smaller commuter cars such as 1 3 series and X3

Maybe in the US has a diesel car issue with prestige, but not in Europe.
Even the previous 6 was available with the inline6biturbo diesel, and I’m pretty sure that the majority of 6 series sold in Europe was diesel.
This engine is just perfect for driving long distances without stopping every 300miles to refill.
