The BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe just hit its first milestone. BMW announces that the X6 Coupe units reached 100,000 worldwide.

BMW X6 came to break the stereotype of a BMW vehicle back in 2008 by combining the attributes of an SUV – high ground clearance, all wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires – with the stance of a coupé – bold styling, dramatic sloping roof and dynamic lines.

Initially received with skepticism, the X6 was one of the most controversial BMWs of the decade with a large number of purists expressing their strong opinion on BMW’s new direction. But, over the last two years, the X6 SAC became highly successful and the car became popular in the US, and mostly Middle East and Russia.

In Germany, BMW’s top-selling model is the xDrive30d.

Building on the success of the sporty SAV, BMW released last year their first M all-wheel drive vehicle, the X6M, yet another controversial model. To increase its presence in the segment and to align with the “green movement” of all the other automakers, BMW launches the X6 ActiveHybrid, a car that became more popular on the West coast of United States.

The first facelift of the BMW X6 is scheduled for next year.

I’d just like to say, “Up yours!” To all the ppl that proclaimed this car to be a sales flop. Not even all the negative hype around the X6 could keep buyers away. Why? Cause, BMW knows their market!

This is the market segment that makes money for BMW. Not this entry level 1er or upcoming 2er crap.

Enthusiast cars (1er) are a niche market, a requisite nod to their roots. Nothing more.

Um, the X6 isn’t exactly a car I’d call “something for enthusiasts”. Cars like the 1 series or this upcoming 2 series have far more potential as “driver’s cars” than any X6 ever would.

Um, please reread my post. I was touting the X6 as the big ticket money maker.

The compacts are niche market vehicles that have a lower quality point that fools Joe public into thinking that he actually owns a BMW that he could finally afford . Too bad for us that can afford a real one. These schmucks will think thqt they are one of us driving around those one-off 1er’s and 2er’s.

      what is a 2er?

  • BMfan

Never had a doubt this car will sell. A car as beautiful in form as in performance.
