The 1 Series Coupe (E82) and Convertible (E88) went on sale in the United States in model year 2007 as the 128i and the 135i. Half way through their lifecycle, the two vehicles are due for the usual BMW facelift.

Ahead of its world premiere in December, a BMW 1 Series Coupe test mule has been spotted during a test session.

Changes to the Coupe and Convertible revolve around the headlights which get the LED technology treatment, but also the taillights featured the now usual LEDs. A more aerodynamic front bumper, and new exterior colors and interior trims are the newest addition to the popular 1er.

Newly sculpted air intakes are set lower to the ground, giving the front fascia a more aggressive look.

We expect the drivetrain to remain largely unchanged for the majority of the lineup. The top model in the 1 Series family will be the new 1 Series M Coupe which makes its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2011.

this is probably the most mild facelift I’ve seen from BMW.

They’re selling like hotcakes, so why change it too dramatically. Even for the entry level compact BMWs they need to update them so that teenagers can differenciate between who has the newer version…… boooooorrrring

Because, even though the 135i coupe was launched in 07, most of its style cues come from the 120i series which have been around since 2004, over 6 years ago. Therefore to say that the car was slightly dated already at launch, is not an understatement, and a little refresh won’t hurt anyone.

There is a scoop photograph of the BMW Active E in it’s “production” guise which shows how the car will turn out when the black tape and plastic covers are removed from the lower bumper region.

We will also see a 116d Coupe for Europe.
The changes bring the 1er Coupe and Cabrio to sit alongside the upcoming F20 1er by sharing similar design elements in the front lights , lower bumper and rear lights. The Coupe and Cabrio have about two years left on the market.

Both 1er Coupe and Cabrio will be unveiled alongside the 1M Coupe at the NAIAS , Detroit in January. First details will be available in December.

no matter what they do, this is one ugly car compared to the 3 series.
