At the 2010 Beijing Motor Show in April, BMW displayed a new and unique color for the M3 family: Frozen Black Matte Paint. This is the very same color that BMW Chief Designer, Adrian van Hooydonk, mentioned in an interview with us at the Detroit Motor Show.

Today, BMW releases new photos of this exclusive paint that is available for the M3 with Competition Package. Another color available with the Competition Package is the Monte Carlo Blue.

The Competition Package (ZCP) was introduced recently in the U.S. market and it enhances the look of the super sporty M3. ZCP also includes 10mm lower suspension and 19” wheels with greater offset for a wider track. Remapped Electronic Damping Control and Dynamic Stability Control systems are also part of the package.

Design wise, modified rear lights with glass covers in a homogeneous red color provide an additional visual accentuation in the BMW M3 Coupe. With two harmoniously illuminating light banks fed by LED units, they create a characteristic nocturnal design.

The Competition Package is available on the Coupe and Sedan models for $2,500.

2009 was all about matte colors and throughout the year, we have seen several models sporting a black matte color.

Is Monte Carlo Blue available to order now, or is it coming later?

  • b

how come some pics of the ZCP show carbon fiber splitters and others don’t? are they a part of the package or an extra accessory?

    • Jag

the carbon fiber spoiler is always there, just because it fits perfectly to the paint that you can’t see it clearly

  • c

The carbon fiber splitters and rear spoiler are BMW performance accessories and not a factory option.

A warning to anyone thinking of going for one of these frozen colours. Just one bird droping on your car and the paintwork blisters within 1 hour. Also driven in winter means that you have to wash off the road salt every day as otherwise the paint blisters. So this is most certainly not the right choice unless you leave in a hot place like birds don’t shit and the there is no winter.

It’s just the clearcoat that’s matte, right? I mean, it might be harder to clean (or keep clean), but why would it protect the car any less?
