This week, BMW celebrates 40 years of the original 3 Series with the launch of the 2015 BMW 3 Series Facelift. With a total of over 14 million units delivered to customers since its initial introduction, the BMW 3 Series is the biggest-selling BMW of all. Accounting for around 25 per cent of total BMW vehicle sales, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring together represent the BMW brand’s most successful model range.

Now, the refreshed 3 Series Sedan and Touring aim to continue delivering a premium product in its last years of production.

The 2015 BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring feature sharper design and sportier front and rear views. Designer have given the headlights a redesign with optional full-LED lighting while the LED taillights are sharper and more dynamic. The rear end also gets more sculpted and clearly defined lines.

Inside, premium materials and new trim options further improve the looks and luxury aspect of the 3 Series family.

BMW offers the 3 Series models with three equipment lines: Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport Package. Customers can choose from a total of 16 exterior colors for their new BMW 3 Series. New additions to the range include Mediterranean Blue metallic, Platinum Silver metallic and Jatoba metallic, in addition to the Individual colour Champagne Quartz metallic. The Estoril Blue metallic shade is still reserved exclusively for cars equipped with the M Sport package.

Along with a refreshed design, the 3 Series Sedan and Touring bring the world premiere of new four and six-cylinder petrol engine. The new four-cylinder found in the BMW 330i now develops 250 horsepower while the top of the line BMW 340i delivers 326 horsepower from the new B58 six-cylinder inline engine. All the three-, four- and six-cylinder petrol engines and the four-cylinder diesel units in the BMW 316d, BMW 318d and BMW 320d are now sourced from the newly developed, modular BMW EfficientDynamics engine family and feature BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

So you’re telling me that the new 330i has a 4 cylinder engine…
    Wtf ?!

    • Daniel Johnson says:

How is this surprising? The outgoing 328i had a 4-cyl, and the 330i is replacing the 328i.

      • Kaisuke971 says:

Dude like 5 years ago the 325i was 6 cylinders now even the 330i comes with a 4 come on

        • Daniel Johnson says:

Yes, from 2009-2011 the 328i was a non-turbo charged 3.0L 6 cylinder putting out 230hp and accelerating to 60 in about 6 seconds. In 2012 the 328i was updated to a 2.0l Turbocharged 4 cylinder putting out 240hp and accelerating to 60 in about 5.6 seconds. The 325i from 2006-2008 was also a 3.0L 6 cylinder, but was only 215hp. The 2006 330i was a non-turbocharged 6 cylinder good for a respectable 260hp however, so I kinda see your point (the new 330i has less power than the 2006 330i). Though, the weight savings means it will likely be just as fast if not faster to 60 than the 2006 330i, and it should get ~6-8mpg better on the hwy. Thankfully, BMW still make some sweet inline 6’s, and they give you the option to buy them in the 1 series, 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, X series, and Z series, as well as the M3/M4.

Well we didn’t get the E90 328i in EU i didn’t even know it exists x)
The 330i will be faster than the old 330i being a lighter nearly as powerful 4cylinder Turbo, lighter, with a better transmission and just more modern overall but still it’s quite sad to see now even 330s are 4 cylinders :/
The 6s are getting very exclusive now…

wait wait wait– i’m confused (and maybe disheartened??)… thought the 320i / 328i / 335i would be all getting nomenclature and engine changes (and the 328i would become the 330i, and the 335i would become the 340i…)………. the 320i had 180 hp… 328i had 240hp… and 335i had 300hp……… are they doing away w/ a middle car and ONLY having 184hp and 326hp option?? please tell me i’m reading this incorrectly. (likewise, i looked at “2015 328i specs” and it’s saying that that current 328i has the 180hp??– BMWUSA.com website is down for the 3-series page, while they retool w/ new info, so i can’t check there, now…)… please lemme know– thanks!!!

    • Daniel Johnson says:

It is a typo in this article, It will be as you expect, the 320i with 180hp, the 330i with 250hp, and the 340i with 320hp. There will also be a 330e coming.

  3. 88E30M3 says:

Wouldn’t this be a 2016 model year? The 2015s are currently available.

  4. Steven Haas says:

    That Mediterranean blue is gorgeous.
