This has been an exciting year for BMW. From the introduction of new models, to receiving awards and accolades, the Bavarians have had a successful year.
The introduction of several new models was the key ingredient in this successful and exciting year. The line-up has seen some design refreshes and the introduction of new models, from sports cars to niche models and green cars.
With that in mind, we’ve created a list of five BMW cars that we consider to have had a significant impact on the brand in 2014 and even moving forward.
Named Top Gear magazine’s global Car of the Year 2014, the plug-in hybrid performance vehicle beat off some stiff competition from a host of other premium and luxury manufacturers to win the overall award. Powered by a combination of a petrol engine and electric motors, this is a vehicle that provides a healthy insight into BMW’s plan for the future in terms of high-performance and efficient vehicles.
With the introduction of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe, the naming convention for the popular M car has changed a bit, but the expected performance remains the same.
The new BMW M3 and BMW M4 are powered the 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo that 425-hp inline six-cylinder engine. It combines two mono-scroll turbochargers with variable valve control (Double-VANOS and Valvetronic) and high-precision direct injection for a smoother and more efficient power delivery through a manual or automatic transmission. This allows both cars to accelerate from 0-60mph (0-100km/h) in 4.1 seconds, giving the amazing performance expected by BMW fans.
The BMW M235i Coupe is the latest member of the BMW M Performance Automobile family. This car is what many have called the best compact BMW in terms of performance, agility and fun. The comparison with an another BMW iconic car, the 2002, have not stopped since it was introduced to the market. It is truly a car that is both fun to drive and has great sporty looks.
Like the X6 before it, the BMW X4 combines the performance and capability of a premium Sports Activity Vehicle, with the style and elegance of traditional coupe.
In the US, the X4 is offered with a choice of two TwinPower Turbo petrol engines. On the other hand, the Europeans will have a chance to order this vehicle with diesel engines as well, providing a nice choice for future owners in terms of power and fuel efficiency.
The new BMW X4 offers the premium mid-size segment its first taste of the Sports Activity Coupe concept. Like its larger sibling, the BMW X6, the X4 offers a unique and unmistakable presence on the road.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
One of the most controversial BMWs of the year, or of this decade, is without a doubt the new 2 Series Active Tourer. BMW’s first front-wheel drive vehicle is often criticized by die-hard BMW fans, but not surprisingly, it has a special role for BMW’s future. In order to grow beyond the limited niches, the Bavarians have to create a new class of vehicles that cater to a larger demographic. In Europe, front-wheel drive vehicles are a huge seller for all automakers and they bring several advantages, from lower prices to increased interior space.
Yes, it’s not the prettiest car of the bunch, but in will help BMW’s bottom line, which in turn could give the company more money to build the cars we all love. Think along the lines of special M cars that could arrive in the future.
So this is why it made our list.
