We’re kicking off a new series of reviews here at BMWBLOG: “Watches & Cars.”

Many of us into fine cars, are also into fine watches, so the “Watches & Cars” series will allow us to look at different watch styles that BMW owners, and not only, would enjoy owning.

If you like big bold watches, take a look at SISU.

SISU sent BMWBLOG a Guardian A2 Automatic Series watch to review. SISU is a watch maker that is aimed at big guys that like big watches. Think Dan Bilzerian (the self proclaimed King of Instagram), muscle bound athletic types. These watches clearly make a big bold statement.

The SISU Guardian A2 is a stainless steel, automatic winding mechanical watch with Swiss Automatic Movement. SISU uses Swiss Watch Manufacturer internal mechanical ETA 2824-2 with twenty five jewel movement. The Guardian’s case diameter is a stout 54mm and comes with a case height of 14.6mm. The case is topped with a Sapphire Crystal with anti-reflective properties. Is very clear and super scratch resistant.

I weighed the Guardian and it rang in at 371 grams after having two links removed so it would fit my wrist. The bracelet also has a half-link to help with the sizing. To put 371 grams into perspective, it’s just over 0.81 lbs. I assumed when I put this on my wrist it’d feel too heavy as I am no “King of Instagram”. The thing about the weight is that it’s very well balanced and the large stainless band distributes the weight evenly about the wrist. Wearing it all day was no problem.

The bracelet features a push-button deployant clasp which makes it easy to put on and take off.

The face of the Guardian is white and has large numerals 12, 3, 6 and 9 pushed into the edge of the deep case. In the center of the face, there are eight slanted slots in where you can see part of the inner workings of the Swiss moving mechanics. Flipping the case over reveals a clear nickel sized crystal view of more of the self winding mechanism. The back of the case is stamped with “Designed in California”, Swiss made and 100 Meter Depth rating.

When I hit the face of the watch with the intense LED lights from our long term i3, the Superluminova coated luminescent hands really lit up.

The face has a silver edged dial and white center. At the 4 o’clock position is a comparatively small date dial. SISU does not leave the date window floating in the dial and puts it alongside the inner ring. All in all a very clean look.

SISU also offers a Guardian A1 with a matte black dial and the Guardian A3 with a floating double indicator layer.

A big watch definitely isn’t for everyone. However, if it’s your style, it’s worth a look. The SISU Guardian Watch retails for $1495.
