Based on the recent spy photos, here is a rendering that depicts very closely the front-end design of the new 2014 BMW M3.
First off, the photoshoped image shows the power dome seen on some test mule, an indication that BMW will continue to offer it in the next generation M3 as well. Secondly, the front fascia kicks up a notch the aggressive look expected on a M3 model. The front bumper features design cues from the recently launched M6 with the 1M-like air curtains. The air vents are large in size with angled fins that give the car not only a road-focused look, but also a dominating stance.
Coming to market in 2014, the F80 M3 will be powered by an inline-six engine. The engine of choice is a newly developed 3.2 liter unit that is rated at 450 horsepower, but it could reach 480 horsepower with a new performance package. In a previous conversation we had with BMW M CEO, Dr. Nitschke, we learned that the sporty division’s goal for the iconic M3 was the reduction of weight.
“This is one of the most important things for us: reducing weight,” said Dr. Nitschke in regards to future M products. “In the new M5 and M6, we reduced the weight quite a bit, but dramatically weight savings will be seen in the new M3. We are using not only parts made out of aluminum, but we are also at the the front of our industry to use carbon fiber across many models. We will bring additional parts made out of carbon fiber.”
The F80 M3 will debut in concept form at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, while the production version, will appear in September 2013 at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
