In 2017, BMW is rumored to launch a new roadster. Dubbed BMW Z2, the entry-level roadster aims to bring back the philosophy behind the original Z3 Roadster.
The 2017 BMW Z2 will carry a few unique features found in the Z4 but at its core is a different product. First, the Z2 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and second, it will feature a soft top versus the hardtop found in the current roadster.
The Z2 is said to have a wider appeal and aims to bring a new generation of buyers to the brand.
The 2017 BMW Z2 shares its platform with the new MINI Hardtop. With a focus on lightweight construction, the front-drive Z2 could come in not much over 2500 pounds.
The Z2 may be offered with a number of three- and four-cylinder engines from BMW’s modular engine architecture. The powerplants will produce anywhere from 160 to 230 horsepower.
