BMWUSA gives us a quick on-track race between the BMW M3 and the X5M. Filmed at the Laguna Race track in Monterey, the first M-SAV shows its exceptional performance on the track, thanks to its TwinTurbo V8 Engine and a Torque Vectoring Rear Differential.

At 5,368 pounds, the BMW X5 M presented a challenge to both the engineers and the marketing department, but to its 4.4 liter V8 turbocharged engine, the X5M delivers impressive performance. The S63 engine delivers 555 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 501 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 RPM.

The unusual competitor, BMW M3, is powered by the S65B40 naturally aspirated, high-revving 4-liter V8 that is based on the 5-litre S85B50 V10 that powered the E60/E61 M5 and the E63/E64 M6. It delivers 414 horsepower at 8300 rpm, with peak torque of 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) at 3900 rpm.

Let’s have a look at the short 30-seconds clip, while we are working on getting more extended footage.

And? What’s the point? To make the X5 M look ridiculous?:)))

Maybe an X5M vs M3 in the snow advertisement would have been much better.

  3. Trillionblaze says:

Just thought I’d put this here

      Topgear Test Track

      BMW M3 (E91)  1:26.50 (Dry weather)
      BMW X5M         1:28.20 (Wet weather)
      BMW M3 (E46)  1:31.80 (Dry weather)

The X5M is still pretty fast considering it’s weight and size.

U obviously have never driven the X5M. Do yourself a favor and do it. Then write the experience here.  Its extremely fast and agile, don’t let the size and weight fool you. its an //M car as much as the E30 M3 was, just different times/size. Its that good.

I can’t watch the video at work but loving the picture of the X5M cutting the corner at the corkscrew.  Awesome.  I would love to romp on an X5M in the desert/salt flats!

  5. M stands for Motorsport says:

What a pointless video, not the fact it’s a M3 vs X5 “M” but just in general, so it can go across a bit of dirt wow! Where is the rest of the lap..? Or was that the only place they were together lol!

Seriously though the X5M is a great machine but to call it an M is just a disgrace to the badge which last time I looked stood for Motorsport not Mountains, it’s a suv wtf is Motorsport about that!!!

You are really old school with your ideas, BMW will do anything to sell the M brand. why not put it in any model ? nothing wrong with that , it is still a BMW ! M is for MOTORSPORT this is a Sporty SUV !!!
