Ahead of its M Festival debut, the new 2012 BMW M5 is teasing us once again. An M5 test mule was filmed during high-speed testing at the Nardò Ring in the south of Italy, an important part of the new BMW M5’s development program.

Between June 23 and 26th, 2011, BMW will host an M Festival to celebrate the 24hr race at the Nurburgring race track.

On this occasion, BMW invites fans around the world to have a look behind the scenes at the famous race and also visit the playground where every M car is developed and tested. Also, the new M5 and M3 EVO will be officially introduced.

Full details around the powerplant remain unknown, but we learned in the past that the 2012 BMW M5 is powered by an updated version of the S63 engine found in the BMW X5 M and X6 M. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll powerplant will peak at somewhere in the 570-horsepower range and 530 lb-ft of torque. The 0-62 mph dash should take about 4.4 seconds,

The updated unit delivers both performance and efficiency significantly increased in comparison to the previous engine. Numerous drivetrain innovations and other enhancements have lead to a reduction in fuel consumption and emission levels by more than 25 percent.

The new engine is mated mated to a 7-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic. The combination of the new engine with M Drivelogic is supplemented by an Auto Start Stop function. A manual option will be offered for US customers.

The super sporty sedan goes on sale in early 2012 and it is rumored to have a base price around $100,000 mark.

Oh man!!! I had an accident in my shorts… ;-))

    305KPH!!!  That’s 189MPH!!!!

    • http://profiles.google.com/mtechnik3 Miroslav Nikolich

Me too, Manny! I drink my coffee in the morning just like Bernd Limmer – while cruising over 180 mph. :D haha! Can’t wait to drive this beast.

      • Manny Antunes

I know, I love how they put that in the video. As if to imply that at 190MPH having a sip of coffee is a relaxed undertaking… LOL

    • LOL

      correction, that’s 310 kph = 193 mph.

      • Fredyschiftan

Sadly it will be restricted to 160 miles , BMW is committed to this rule in Germany  .

  • Sanii-bmw

WE ARE READY TO SEE MORE!! =)

  • Lexus LVR

I just hope that it is faster this time. The current Lexus GS450h is faster to 60 mph than the current M5. Why buy an M5 then when the GS450h is faster, more reliable, has more features and is better looking?

    • Manny Antunes

Put down the smokey smokey LVR.

      • LexusLVR

        It’s actually a fact. The GS450h beats the current E60 M5 to 60 mph.

        • Manny Antunes

This “current” M5 you keep mentioning…..you mean the M5 we stopped producing almost 2 years ago?? That one??? LMAO!

The new F10 M5 will make ALL sedans on the market bow down to it, shine it’s shoes, and kiss it’s toes.

Including most purpose built sports cars!

          • Otto

            I seriously doubt about that.
            Upcoming Jaguar XFR-S
            MB E63 AMG
            Upcoming Audi RS6
BMW created the performance limo niche long time ago but nowadays these cars are more than just supporting characters, much more…
And I can take the bet that BMW will sell less F10 M5 than E60, simply because the maturity of the 4 doors Coupé niche, the future M6 GranCoupe included. But BMW has to make it right, the AM Rapide, the MB CLS or the Porsche Panamera are far more sexy than the F10, even in M gear.
Anyway, performance limos are a nonsense : more weight and more power every new generation but the perfs are the same. At best they are a showcase for the makers.
For the same money you spend on a M5, get yourself a 525i for your family and a Lotus Elise or a Porsche Boxter/Cayman for the track.

You forget that M cars are not just bout power upgrades but about so many upgrades that make them ultimate driving machines via sedans. you can see what the last 2006 m5 has done to its competitors for the past 4 years, the current m3 for the past 3 years.

          • Otto

            Did I mention a 3er size car? I don’t think so.
Anything bigger than a 3er is a nonsence in terms of performance car.
I’m fascinated by the technological content of these cars but have a cold look at them and you’ll share my point of view. One could expect to find some of it in more “plain” models (eg the DCT transmission) but BMW is not known for that.
            Btw, a M3 E92 laps the Nurburgring faster than a M5 E60.
About what “m5 has done to its competitors for the past 4 years”, one of  the sport car magazine reference in Europe ranked the M5 E60 with 4 stars out of 5 whereas the MB E63 AMG and the Jaguar XFR ranked 5.

LVR please get inform first…a fact? you must kidding! must be a wishful thinking fact…see below link…

Months ago, there were rumours that the F10 M5 would be equipped with a KERS-like system with activation switch on the steering wheel. Any updates on this?

Just wondering cause in the video the car has the DCT but at top speed of 310 in 6th gear so that means top speed 330-340 in 7th?

    • Otto

It means that the gear box is a 6+1, the purpose of the 7th being to lower standard fuel consumption not to reach the top speed, just like the M3.
