The upcoming BMW G01 X3 was spotted in Germany earlier this week, giving us yet another preview of what’s to come in June of this year. Over the last few months, a series of X3 test mules were spotted around the world, with BMW engineers behind the wheel testing its capabilities and adaptability to weather conditions.
As seen here, the G01 X3 will maintain its compact proportions and stocky look, which will clearly differentiate it from the rest of X family. The front design was adjusted due to the new pedestrian safety regulations and now sits a little more upright than the outgoing model. The rear quarter features a slightly lower roofline than the current model and a one-piece tailgate.
The new BMW X3 will be longer, wider and roomier on the inside, while also being lighter and stiffer. It will also come with new engine options, ranging from the new B48 2.0 liter turbo-four to the B58 3.0 liter turbo inline-six. The latter will power the upcoming X3 M40i variant.
Along with a new exterior design and a more premium cabin, high-tech and safety features, and advanced telematics, are poised to make the G01 X3 another big seller for the Bavarians.

As a F25 and 1st gen owner I’m very disapointed with these images. Looks like an lci dull boting predictable. Macan or Velar for me next
As also an owner of F25, i can say that’s pity you think so…
Yeah, Macan, which costs 2 times more than a X3 is better than X3, what a surprise… :)
by about 20k at that for a base velar as well (50K) or macan.. which looks nothing like their press photos of the 100k one they are pimping.. if hes driving a current x3 and thats his economic wheelhouse, i think he’s about to get a dose of reality and end up in an X1. Not to mention how small/sad it is to have a Macan of all porsches as well as the infotainment/rep of Land Rover. My guess is a 2018 X3 M40i goes for 55K to 60K loaded where as you get no where close with the others.
Visually its exterior already looks an improvement on the current generation. The problem is Range Rover have beat them to the market with that superb looking Velar. Porsche Macan will be updated soon too. As well as Merc’s GLC. Audi just released their Q5 too, not to mention the Jaguar offering in this segment coming soon. The segment is the most competitive. If BMW don’t bring their A game in terms of driving + handling performance they could easily fall back to where they never would like to be. But I expect BM to shine with this X3 and the upcoming X4
the problem is that Velar is a ceremonial car with all its pluses and minuses. Macan is nice but not much nicer than X3, Q5 – the new version – mixed feelings, not really as great as the current model was when it was launched, Mercedes – great as they create competitive environment and this drives BMW to become even better
Macan looks so sad to me, you really have to be porsche and brand obsessed with that one. The Q5 is a joke, that thing barely looks different and arguably worse with that giant ford edge front bumper. By the looks of this X3 it looks like a somewhat lowered iteration of the older x5s versus the awful we’ve gotten so far with this model.
The velar is such a con, I loved it when they teased and mentioned starting prices… then the reality is that all thats available right now in the low end is the 50k one and thats already a big departure from the 100k version thats in all their press photos.
My my, it looks as if BMW decided to make a better-to-look-at X3. Oh, I hope so!
any info on a PHEV version of the upcoming X3?
These standard simple LED headlights are damn ugly. Adaptive much more nicer.
id argue they look worse than what was the HIDs. On the new 4 series they definitely look awful in standard.. way more chunky and might even be smaller lenses. That said the full LED with their new LED Angel Eye treatments are great
