In 2015, a new variant will join the upcoming BMW 2 Series family. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will come to market as a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the A3 Sedan.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe will offer to customers the sleekness and design of a coupe with the practicality of a small sedan. BMW will place greater emphasis on the dynamics and typical BMW DNA when it comes to the design of the four-door coupe.
The exterior design is based on the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible models, but with a slightly longer platform to accommodate the sleek roof line and increased size, while the elongated roofline is lower, more rounded.
Rear-wheel drive is the platform of choice for the 2 Series models and the 2 Series Gran Coupe will make use of it as well. Under the hood, the 2 Series Gran Coupe will use the same powerplants as the coupe and convertible variants, a combination of four-cylinders in diesel and petrol. A high-end six-cylinder engine might be used for the 235i Gran Coupe. Or M235i Gran Coupe if BMW chooses to replace the 35i models with the M Performance Automobiles variant.
A choice between a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmissions will be offered to customers.
