Sport Auto magazines takes the 2012 BMW M5 to the race track and records on camera a mind blowing top speed of 314 km/h or 186 mph 195 mph. Earlier this month, the same automotive magazine clocked the F10 M5 at 1:12.9 on the Hockenheim circuit. Previous generation E60 M5 was clocked on the same circuit at 1:15.6, while the powerful ALPINA B5 BiTurbo did a little better: 1:14.5.

During the same test, from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), the F10 M5 stopped the clock at 4.1 seconds, and at 12.4 seconds, it already achieved 124 mph (200 km/h).

The video below focuses on the tachometer of the M5 and the 300+ km/h speed. Clearly the test car featured the M Drivers package that removes the electronic speed delimiter.

Power for the F10 M5 comes from a TwinPower turbocharged V8. The high-revving 4.4-liter (4395cc) turbocharged uses the BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, twin-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection, Valvetronic variable valve control and a cross-bank exhaust manifold. The car produces 560 horsepower from 5,750-7,000 rpm and 502 lb-ft of torque from only 1500rpm.

Let’s have a look.

Consider dropping collision and/or comprehensive coverages on older cars. Search online for “Clearance Auto” If your car is worth less than 10 times the premium, purchasing the coverage may not be cost effective.

      go away

  • Viper

appears to be limited. there is more potential in that 6th gear , for at least 330kmh. V10 could do 330 and with less hp.

i think this M-DCT in m5 has 6 gears plus 1 (7th) for fuel economy, i think i read that right here at bmwblog

  • Sushpark

you need to recheck your math.  314 km/h is 195 mph.

    BRILLIANT AS ALWAYS

  • Manchester Man

314 kmh is fast enough, it also seems that if he kept his foot down he could have gone even faster.

  • Brian

Except that 314 kph is NOT 186 mph it is in fact 195 mi/h

  • MPower

It will reach easily 330km/h and more beacause the acceleration even at 300km/h to 314km/h was fast, so it could go more. At 314km/h the RPM was at 6500RPM and the car changed the gears at 7500RPM.

  • Jim

BMW speedos always read about 10% too high. Same with lots of other car brands too. So keep that in mind when looking at these numbers

  • Viper

well anyway it clearly misses 7th gear.
