Today, at the 2011 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, Nvidia announces a partnership with BMW to power the graphics in all of its infotainment systems.

The iDrive Navigation system in newer BMWs already features rich 3D maps, but the Nvidia GPU is expected to improve rendering speed. Nvidia says its GPU will enable 1280×600 resolution graphics in BMW’s next generation infotainment system which we expect to see in the upcoming 1 and 3 Series models due to be unveiled later this year.

A prototype of the new infotainment system will be on display in a BMW 5 Series at CES this week. The partnership will extend across all of BMW’s family of cars, including the other brands in the BMW Group, Rolls Royce and MINI.

hilarious, they show the current audi interface as the next generation bmw!

    • Hari G

They are showing it as an example of how the graphics look like – since Nvidia supplies Audi too.

We even added the caption below the photo to illustrate that. It’s a photo showing how Nvidia does 3D on Audi MMI system

The Lexus 3-D navigation is actually really nice and I refer it over the BMWs.

    • ///M3 Guy

with respect of your opinion, the Lexus navigation is useless.

A friend of mine has the latest sedan and the Nav. shows the car is driving on the sea 8Km from the current location. He reset the Nav. at the dealer, worked well for a few days & the car was hovering the sea again!

      • Hari G

That’s just your friend. Tom is right, Lexus’ nav is better.

    Best Graphics GPUs! Go BMW!

The aAudi 3d map looks cool. I guess I am behind the times, I never knew they are making 3d navigation maps now. Benz has a lot of catching up to do. I heard their navigation systems are horrible (need to load up CD’s which are outdated etc).

interesting. Is this the nVidia Tegra or Ion?
