Today, at the 2011 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, Nvidia announces a partnership with BMW to power the graphics in all of its infotainment systems.

The iDrive Navigation system in newer BMWs already features rich 3D maps, but the Nvidia GPU is expected to improve rendering speed. Nvidia says its GPU will enable 1280×600 resolution graphics in BMW’s next generation infotainment system which we expect to see in the upcoming 1 and 3 Series models due to be unveiled later this year.

A prototype of the new infotainment system will be on display in a BMW 5 Series at CES this week. The partnership will extend across all of BMW’s family of cars, including the other brands in the BMW Group, Rolls Royce and MINI.

A time frame for the rollout of the new Nvidia GPU has not been mentioned, but we expect to see on the road sometimes next year.

Nvidia GPU is already being used by Audi in their MMI navigation system allowing for rich 3D buildings and landscape rendering.
